The Ultimate Addiction:
As humans we have come to this planet to grow, physically, mentally and emotionally.
For us to fit into the cyclical nature of these three worlds, it is in our nature to form habits. These habits or compulsions can easily become dependencies and in certain cases even addictions.
Habits manifest at all three levels – physical, mental and emotional. With habits you still have control, and you can stop whenever you want. With dependency it is more difficult and you will experience withdrawal when you do eventually stop. And when you are an addict you have gone beyond your ability to stop at will – the craving overwhelms your will and you lose control over it. You could say you have surrendered to the compulsion. In the case of addiction intervention is usually required.
Addiction can apply to any psychological dependency and not just mind-altering chemicals and stimulants. You can become addicted to sex, sweets, electronic games, or even conditional love. And these addictions can become detrimental to your physical, mental or even emotional health.
The first step to overcome addiction is to admit that you have a problem and that you have lost control. Then the healing can begin.
With this background in mind, I would like to state that most humans today are thought-addicts, thought junkies. We simply cannot stop thinking! Many of us can’t even sleep properly at night because we have no ability to stop the modulations of our minds. This compulsion to remember, reason or imagine overwhelms us. We confront it with sleeping pills, followed by groggy days. Or we displace it with other addictions that can be far worse. We drink to forget. Or take drugs to step beyond the confining boundaries of logical reasoning. But even then we still end up thinking while cooking, while eating, when we are walking, driving and sometimes even when we are making love, because we have lost our natural ability to stop thinking and step beyond the mental and simply be in the heart, in present moment. This constant vacillation of the mind between the past and the future causes tremendous levels of stress in our systems, often making our bodies ill and our hearts to shrink. If left untreated, it can destroy the quality of our lives. Throwing prescription drugs at it is not the solution! That is simply swapping one dependency for another.
If you can admit that you have this thought addiction, the solution is at hand. A competent instructor of meditation can provide you techniques that will enable you to step beyond this compulsion to think at will. You will no longer be a thought-addict. Instead you will become master of your own mind. Only then will it be possible for you to step into the present moment and connect to the Divine at your own choosing. The Divine is not in the past or the future. The Divine can only be found in the present moment. And you are only available for communion with the Divine if you can enter the present moment in a relaxed and receptive state of awareness. While you are occupied with thoughts you are not in the present moment. When you are in the present but your awareness is concentrated, the Divine cannot reach you. No matter how hard you pray.
If you have learned techniques before, but they have not given you this ability to stop thoughts and enter a relaxed and receptive state of mind while in the present moment, you should not give up or abandon your search. School of Samaya will share the ancient, previously lost, secrets of spatial and dynamic meditation with you in three easy steps that will allow you to step beyond this compulsion at will. These techniques will allow you to step beyond the mind and enter the present with a relaxed state of awareness. This state will allow you to enter into communion with the Divine.
Recovering addicts, people who are on the journey of recovery and on the twelve step program, will find these ancient secrets of Samaya invaluable if they intend to ascend the eleventh step – improving their conscious contact with God. Without knowing how to step beyond thought-addiction, and into the present moment, and without knowing how to be in a receptive state of awareness in the present moment, conscious contact with God is severely hampered. What we thinks is prayer is often just the mind, deceiving us that we are in contact with God, while in our hearts we know this isn’t really true. There are a few lucky ones who know how to surrender to the present and their rational minds to the Divine, without any technique or instruction, but they are part of a minority. Most of us have no idea how to accomplish this.
School of Samaya will take you through a three-step program to accomplish your eleventh step so that you can finally move on to the twelfth: helping others. Step eleven will stay with you all of your life, and once you have accomplished it, its reward is love. When you enter into communion with God, your heart is filled with love, because God is the source of unconditional love. The sign that you have had communion with God is a heart filled with love.
If the result of your communion with God is simply an idea or a solution to a problem, you have not gone all the way with God. You have not become intimate with God. You have not become a lover of God. Then your relationship with God is still at the level of the mental – distant, like a relative that you can call on for help, but not a lover. Then you have not truly accomplished step eleven. Only when you are filled with love does your action of helping others become effortless. God is the inexhaustible source of unconditional love and keeps filling you if you remain surrendered to Him. When you lose this connection, you can be sure that the mind has intervened to cut you off from God. Don’t be fooled by your addiction. Look in your heart and if you want to be helped to go all the way, to become a lover of God, we are waiting for you with open arms. Addiction to God is the true ultimate addiction, surrendering control to God the ultimate surrender.
If you are a Christian, and you have been going to church, but you are not filled with love during the service, we can help you. Come to us and we will show you how to step beyond your mind during the service so that you can enter into communion with God while you are there. You will know when you have – you will be filled with love. It will make you a stronger Christian – a stronger supporter of the value of the church and its service.
If you are a Hindu, and visiting the temple has become just another chore, another ritual, without love, come to us and we will show you how to transform your regular pilgrimage into Divine communion.
It really does not matter what religion or denomination you belong to, the challenge is the same: how to step beyond the modulations of the mind and into the heart, and into Divine communion with the Lord. Your mind cannot go to Heaven, only your heart. Your mind only participates by proxy, after the fact, when it tries to make sense of it all. But Divine Communion remains beyond its comprehension. The job of the mind is to protect you in life, but if you give it control over your life it will cut you off from the heart, and as a result also from the Divine. Then your relationship with the Divine remains a mental one. The Divine communion is through the heart. From there it reaches the mind. But the mind cannot reach the Divine directly. At most it can receive the occasional insight.
As long as you give the modulations of the mind control over your life, as long as you remain surrendered to the mind, God will remain a concept, a belief. It is only when you step beyond your mind into your heart that God becomes a living, loving reality.
If you are not intimate with God, it is simply because you are a thought-addict. You can only become a true believer when you can step beyond thought-addiction, and its judgments which are designed to protect you. When you overcome this addiction and step into the heart, the mind has no choice but to follow the heart and become an instrument of its will.
If your attempts at communion with God have not allowed you to make this leap into the heart. If your efforts have not filled your heart with love. Come to us, we will show you how and bring glory to whatever religious group you belong to.
If you are one of the lucky ones – one who has somehow received this mysterious ability to step beyond the mind into the heart at will, and into communion with God, and you are constantly filled by love. Know that you are not a thought-addict. If you have been frustrated by your inability to instruct others how to experience what you experience, first hand, because your ability came without instructions, send them to us and we will help them to overcome their addiction.
If you have given love selflessly, and yet your loved ones have not been able to reach God’s love directly, and remain unable to join you on the glorious path you have discovered, send them to us and soon they will be walking the path with you. Whatever path it is you choose. All that is holding them back is this thought addiction. All hearts speak the language of love. But to reach your heart, you have to step beyond your mind.
I quote from 1 Corintians:
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.…
